Taste the famous wines of Eger in Szépasszony valley.
Our hotel is located far from the madding crowd, in Szépasszony (beautiful woman) valley, which is famous for its cellars, where visitors and tourists are always kindly awaited for several programmes, outdoor events, wine tasting, delicious meals and atmospheric nights just to mention a few, from spring till autumn.
The cellars in the valley have been one of the most famous part of Eger for decades. In the past few years these wine cellars have received excellent national reputaion regarding their importance in tourism. The area had been called Koháry valley until the beginning of the XIX. century. (István Koháry vicegeneral took part in the liberation of Eger in 1867)
The recent name of the valley has numerous explanations. A document from 1843 says that Szépasszony (beautiful woman) was an ancient goddess of love, similar to Venus. In the circle of Eger farmers there are a lot of legends about the name. One says the valley was once owned by a beautiful woman while another says that a beautiful woman from Eger was selling her wine in the valley.
The hills around Eger all have good characteristics to dig cellars into them. Many of them can be found in the valley as previous wine growers made their cellars here. The average temperature is about 10 degrees. "The ruby red and golden yellow wines started from here in 1774 among the lively walls of Eger to bring their good reputation to the world." The old casks here hold the world famous Egri Bikavér (bull's blood), which delivers health to the body and remedy to the soul.
Keeping the tradition of Szépasszony valley, Hotel Villa Völgy ****/*** also has got a wine cellar large enough to receive up to 60 people. Wine tasting and dinners can be organised here. Sommelier is available by request.
In a traditional atmosphere, our guests can taste Hungarian dishes and wines made for gastronomy.
The dinner includes:
- 4 x 1 dl local wine (bottled or from barrell)
- Hungarian kettle or bean goulash
- Rich Hungarian cold plate (rolled ham stuffed with horse-radish cream, chicken liver with bacon, Paprika with liptauer, a selection of cheese, salami, butter balls and vegetables)
- Strudel filled with sour cherry or apple

The winner is to receive a diplom of Wine General and can taste the best of Eger wines.
The wide range of our services is completed with organizing different programmes.
In our cellar live music is available as well as karaoke parties are possible to be arranged for companies or get-togethers.
With dishes, costumes and decoration from the age, spiced with authentic music and a belly dance performance, this dinner brings the total atmosphere of the renassaince. In the courtyard knight tournaments are held.
